The National Indian Health Board’s 5th Annual National Tribal Public Health Summphs_main_image.gifit was held March 31-April 2, 2014, in Billings, Montana. The theme for the 2014 summit was: Building Healthy Native Communities: Knowledge, Tools, and Know-How.

The Public Health Foundation (PHF) has expertise in applying quality improvement (QI) tools to different public health challenges, including those in trial communities. PHF conducted a workshop on Tuesday, April 1st, 3:30-5:00 pm to demonstrate how tribes can apply QI to their initatives. PHF President Ron Bialek, PHF Senior Quality Advisor John W. Moran, and Cherokee Nation’s Laura Sawney-Spencer led a workshop entitled “Utilizing the Advanced Tools of Quality Improvement to Solve Problems: Understanding the Challenges of Building Healthy Native Communities.” This highly interactive session introduced two advanced QI tools (Affinity Diagram and Interrelationship Diagraph) to help participants describe and gain insight into issues they face in building healthy native communities and prioritize solutions to their most pressing concerns. Download the paper that summarizes this informative session.

Connect with PHF after the event by leaving a comment on our website, following us on Twitter @ThePHF, or posting a message to the PHF Facebook page to start or continue a discussion about building healthy native communities.
