The 2019 Open Forum for Quality Improvement and Innovation (Open Forum) will be held March 28-29, 2019 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Open Forum attendees will learn about compelling, innovative, and emerging content from their peers around a wide variety of topics in performance improvement and innovation in public health. The Open Forum is hosted by the National Network of Public Health Institutes and is sponsored by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

The Right Stuff: Aligning Workforce Development Efforts with Public Health Competencies

Presenters: Elizabeth Rumbel, Workforce Development Specialist, Denver Public Health; Kathleen Amos, Assistant Director, Academic/Practice Linkages, Public Health Foundation
 
A skilled workforce is critical to public health, and key to successful workforce development is ensuring activities reflect the competencies most important for public health jobs. Come learn how the Public Health Core Competencies can help health departments better assess and meet the training and professional development needs of their workforce. Participants will receive tools and templates that can be applied to any health department.
 
Making Sure Performance Management is Working for You
Thursday, March 28, 2019, 1:30pm-2:45pm
Presenters: Dan Ward, Performance Improvement Manager, Idaho Division of Public Health; Sonja Armbruster, Performance Improvement Expert, Public Health Foundation
 
This course will be presenting a unique approach to strengthen performance management at the program level - getting program level personnel involved in understanding how the performance management system functions is a key driver for success and transitioning to a performance management culture. Participants will leave this session with an understanding of the four quadrants of the performance management system and resources for making progress on performance management.
