The Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health (ASPPH) 2015 Annual Meeting will be held March 22-25, 2015 at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City in Arlington, VA. The theme for this year’s meeting is “Framing the Future: A New Paradigm for Academic Public Health.”
On Tuesday, March 24, 2015, from 1:45-3:15pm ET, Public Health Foundation (PHF) President Ron Bialek, MPP, will be participating as a panelist during a session titled Competencies for the Public Health Workforce. The purpose of the session is to highlight approaches to address existing and future public health workers’ training needs through the use of competencies. During the session, Mr. Bialek will give an overview of the revised Core Competencies for Public Health Professionals (Core Competencies), adopted by the Council on Linkages Between Academia and Public Health Practice in June 2014. Mr. Bialek will also explain the value of including the Core Competencies in public health workforce trainings. Other members of the panel include: Tanya Uden-Holman, PhD, Associate Dean for Education and Student Affairs, College of Public Health, University of Iowa; Kathleen R. Miner, PhD, MPH, MEd, Associate Dean Applied Public Health, Rollins School of Public Health, Emory University; and Maureen Lichtveld, MD, MPH, Professor, School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, Tulane University, and Executive Committee President, Hispanic-Serving Health Professions Schools. Debra Olson, DNP, MPH, Professor and Associate Dean for Global Health, School of Public Health, and Executive Director, Center for Global Health and Social Responsibility, University of Minnesota will serve as the moderator.
