The 2014 conference of the Association of Public Health Nurses (APHN) will be held May 4-7, 2014, in Santa Fe, New Mexico, at the La Fonda on the Plaza Hotel. The theme for this year’s event is “Public Health Nursing: Shaping the Future of Population Health.” If you are attending the conference, you will have opportunities to build skills in many areas, including leadership, emergency preparedness and response, quality improvement, and keeping up with emerging trends that impact public health nursing practice.
The Public Health Foundation (PHF) will be conducting a workshop and hosting an exhibit booth at APHN, where you can learn more about quality improvement (QI) for public health nurses from experts and get hands-on experience using QI tools and techniques.
On Monday, May 5, 2014, PHF’s Senior Quality Advisor Jack Moran will present an “Overview of Quality Improvement for Public Health Nurses” at 2pm in the New Mexico Room of the La Fonda on the Plaza Hotel. Special registration is required for this pre-conference workshop. This interactive session is designed to show how QI tools and techniques can be applied to public health nursing processes to improve their efficiency and effectiveness. The workshop will discuss the QI plan-do-check-act (PDCA) methodology, the importance of AIM Statements, and how to understand the needs of your customers. The workshop will consist of some exercises to demonstrate the most commonly used QI tools. Participants will have the opportunity to see how these commonly used tools can help them make improvement to their clinical and business processes through some case study examples.
Beginning at 8am on Tuesday, May 6, 2014, PHF will also display resources in the exhibitor area for you to learn more about valuable QI techniques and tools for public health nurses. Stop by to meet our staff, ask questions about our products and services, and browse our materials including:
