A multi-disciplinary approach for developing a sustainable early warning system and building the capacity to identify infectious diseases in nature before they become threats is absolutely necessary to protect public health.

The "One Border One Health Symposium" is dedicated to enhancing the California - Baja California border region's ability to prevent, prepare, and respond to infectious disease outbreaks by monitoring, protecting, and improving the health of people, animals, and the environment.

This symposium will bring together US and Mexico epidemiologists, clinicians, scientists, naturalists, veterinarians, environmental health specialists, and other professionals and students dedicated to protecting border communities from the growing health threat of emerging infectious diseases such as HIV/AIDS, SARS and pandemic H1N1 Influenza.
