During June, National Men’s Health Month is celebrated. This month is anchored by a Congressional health education program and is celebrated across the country with health screenings, health fairs, media appearances, and other health education and outreach activities. The goal for this year’s National Men’s Health Month is to heighten awareness of preventable health problems and encourage early detection and treatment of disease among men and boys.1 Some of these preventable health issues include cardiovascular disease, prostate and testicular cancer, blood pressure, and high cholesterol. This month gives health care providers, public policy makers, the media, and individuals an opportunity to promote awareness activities, which include Wear Blue Day, fundraisers, and fitness activities. Through participation in awareness events, it is expected that an increased number of men and boys will begin to live healthy, proactive lifestyles.
To increase awareness and knowledge about the problems concerning many of today’s men’s health issues, publicly accessible web-based training opportunities should be made available and promoted alongside other awareness events.
