New Tools to Support Use of the 2014 Core Competencies for Public Health Professionals

With adoption of the 2014 Core Competencies for Public Health Professionals (Core Competencies) in June, the Council on Linkages Between Academia and Public Health Practice began work on resources and tools to help public health professionals and organizations incorporate this revised version into their workforce development activities. The first tools completed are a crosswalk of the 2014 and 2010 versions of the Core Competencies and a set of competency assessments, both of which are now freely accessible online. The crosswalk illustrates the relationships between specific competencies in the 2014 and 2010 Core Competencies and is available in Excel format. The competency assessments, which individuals can use to explore their skill levels in relation to the eight domains within the Core Competencies, are available as self-scoring PDF forms. Further information about the Core Competencies and related tools and resources can be found at phf.org/aboutcorecompetencies and will be presented at the upcoming annual meetings of the National Association of Local Boards of Health on Friday, August 15, 2014 from 9:30-10:30am (Session 4.1) and the American Public Health Association on Monday, November 17, 2014 from 10:30am-12pm in the Hilton, Grand Salon 4 (Session 3120.0). Please contact Kathleen Amos at [email protected] with any questions.
