Catch Up with the Council on Linkages at the APHA Annual Meeting
Attending next month's American Public Health Association Annual Meeting in New Orleans, LA? Be sure to add the Council on Linkages Between Academia and Public Health Practice (Council on Linkages) to your schedule! Council on Linkages activities will be featured at several meeting sessions, including:
- Core Competencies for Public Health Professionals - Improving to Better Meet Public Health Workforce Needs (Session 3120.0) on Monday, November 17th from 10:30am-12pm. This interactive session will introduce the 2014 version of the Core Competencies for Public Health Professionals (Core Competencies) and offer an opportunity to discuss changes made in this revision in response to feedback from the public health community, how the Core Competencies are being used by public health organizations, and resources and tools to support that use.
- Tribal Health and Academic Health Departments: Current Status & Next Steps (Session 3360.0) on Monday, November 17th from 2:30-4pm. During this interactive work session, Council on Linkages Chair C. William Keck, MD, MPH, will join a panel of presenters in exploring the intersection of tribal health and the academic health department model. - Why Do People Work in Public Health? Results and Implications of a Worker Recruitment and Retention Study (Presentation 303842) on Tuesday, November 18th from 10:30-10:50am. This presentation will share the results of a Council on Linkages survey of public health workers, offering insights into factors affecting employment decisions within the field of public health.
- What Matters in Recruiting Public Health Employees: Strategies in Filling Workforce Gaps (Presentation 307879) on Wednesday, November 19th from 9:30-9:50am. Building on the Council on Linkages survey of public health workers, this presentation will consider differences in factors influencing workers' decisions to take jobs in public health based on their previous work settings.
In addition, visit the Public Health Foundation's booth in the Public Health Expo (Booth 1325) to pick up your free copy of the 2014 Core Competencies and learn more about Council on Linkages initiatives. Council on Linkages staff will be available in the booth to answer your questions on Sunday, November 16th from 2-5:30pm; Monday, November 17th from 4-5:30pm; and Tuesday, November 18th from 1:30-2:30pm.
