In February 2014, PHF completed an organization-wide assessment of the structure, operations, oversight, governance, finances, and performance of the Washoe County Health District (Nevada). The four-month review identified key strengths and offered 24 recommendations for the agency to consider based on national standards. PHF assigned a team of public health experts to complete the customized organizational assessment focused on agency-wide review and improvement. The engagement included visits to the agency for purposes of data gathering, discussion, and reporting of findings and recommendations.
In March 2014, Washoe County Health District issued a press release highlighting the assessment, and has posted the complete report to its website. Kevin Dick, the District Health Officer, stated, “We are very pleased by the quality of work and recommendations that have been provided by the Public Health Foundation review team. The recommendations provide a sound path forward for the Health District and will benefit both the organization and the community.”
