Reflections and Lessons Learned from E-Learning Institute Participants
In 2013, PHF and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) launched the first E-Learning Institute, an opportunity to equip public health professionals with knowledge and tools to create high-quality online training products. Now entering its third year, the E-Learning Institute has provided an invaluable experience for 19 participants to work with mentors, develop professionally, and collaborate with new colleagues. A First-Hand Account of PHF's Fundamental Review of the Washoe County Health District
 After experiencing years of declining revenue, deficit spending, and budget cuts, little strategic direction remained for the Washoe County (Nevada) Health District. PHF provided an expert team to conduct a fundamental review of the Health District, and provide recommendations on how to address the key issues found. Join the Council on Linkages for the Next Core Competencies Webinar
The Council on Linkages Between Academia and Public Health Practice (Council on Linkages), in association with the Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health (ASPPH), will host a webinar on Wednesday, January 28, 2015 from 2-3pm EST, to provide an overview of the 2014 Core Competencies for Public Health Professionals (Core Competencies). The webinar will also cover changes made to this version to address feedback from the public health community, and tools available to support the use of the Core Competencies. The Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB) is actively seeking public health practitioners to serve as Site Visitors. PHAB Accreditation is based on a peer review process, and Site Visitors play a central and substantive role in the accreditation process. Interested in joining this growing team? What do Many Accredited Health Departments Have in Common? As of December 9, 2014, PHF has provided technical assistance or training to 25% of accredited health departments, supporting their preparation activities and improvement goals related to PHAB Domains 8 and 9. Accreditation in Focus at February's Academic Health Department Learning Community Meeting The Academic Health Department Learning Community will hold a virtual meeting on Tuesday, February 3, 2015 from 2-3pm EST. Featuring guest speaker Jessica Kronstadt, MPP, Director of Research and Evaluation for PHAB, this meeting will focus on voluntary national health department accreditation and explore opportunities for collaboration between health departments and academic institutions in meeting the PHAB Standards and Measures. TRAIN Affiliate Consortium Heads to Santa Fe for 2015 Annual Meeting
The TRAIN Affiliate Consortium (TAC) Annual Meeting brings together TRAIN affiliates (organizations that have purchased a customized TRAIN portal) from 25 states and three national organizations. This conference and workshop in Santa Fe, New Mexico provides opportunities for learning professionals in public health and healthcare to share knowledge and experiences, and to exchange information and resources about public health and healthcare training, education, and preparedness.
