Update on PHHS Block Grant Opportunities As promised, the Public Health Foundation (PHF) has continued to monitor the Preventive Health and Health Services (PHHS) Block Grant opportunities for health departments to build and sustain performance management, quality improvement, and workforce development activities geared towards strengthening infrastructure and preparing for accreditation. Go to PHF's PHHS Block Grant webpage for updated information on how this program can positively impact your health department. This update includes: - Information about the July 1, 2014 due date for revised work plans and budgets to account for new, doubled FY 2014 PHHS funding
- Specific guidance on strategy planning for state, tribal, local, and territorial health departments
- Sample technical assistance and training packages that can be written into your plans
- Information on how funds can be used beyond chronic disease programs to support agency-wide infrastructure and capacity building initiatives

Seven Public Health Training Plans Now Available on TRAIN
 In last month's issue of PHF E-News, readers were invited to develop web-based training plans - groups of courses designed to address specific gaps in knowledge, skills, and competence - and post them to TRAIN, the nation's premier learning network for professionals who protect the public's health. In response to these requests and others from public health, public safety, and emergency preparedness organizations, you can now find seven public health training plans available on TRAIN from nationally-recognized providers of training.
