World AIDS Day is December 1st |
|
Celebrate World AIDS Day on December 1st, in support of the 30-year fight against HIV/AIDS . State, tribal, local, and territorial health departments, community based organizations, and others are focused on “Ending the Epidemic” (EtE). A key element to EtE is "Treatment as Prevention." According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), “people who take ART [Anti-Retroviral Therapy] daily as prescribed and achieve and maintain an undetectable viral load have effectively no risk of sexually transmitting the virus to an HIV-negative partner.” Other ways of preventing HIV include limiting the number of sexual partners, never sharing needles, using condoms correctly , and taking prescribed medicines like pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP). According to CDC, everyone should know their risks and get tested at least once in their lifetime. |

- The Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program works with cities, states, and local community-based organizations to provide primary medical care and support to people living with HIV who have no insurance or are underinsured.
- NAM (formally known as the National AIDS Manual) worked with healthcare providers and people living with HIV to develop interactive tools and apps to help prepare for discussions with healthcare providers. If you want to receive daily reports on new research and findings in HIV treatment and prevention from around the world, download the aidsmap news app (available on iTunes and Google Play).
- The Clinician Consultation Center’s (CCC) mission is to improve patient health outcomes by building the capacity of healthcare providers through expert clinical consultation and education. CCC provides free peer-to-peer consultation from experienced clinicians on management of HIV/AIDS, perinatal HIV, pre-exposure prophylaxis, and post-exposure prophylaxis management for HIV and hepatitis B and C.
- Whether a patient is newly diagnosed with HIV, or another sexually transmitted disease (STD), or has lived with HIV for many years, Partner Notification Services discussions provide a critical opportunity to talk with patients about adopting safer sexual behaviors, leverage patient-health care provider relationships, and maximize that trust to help stop transmission of HIV and STDs.
- Every voice and every story about HIV/AIDS is important. Individuals featured in Let’s Stop HIV Together have shared their stories to raise awareness, fight stigma about HIV, encourage HIV prevention and testing, and champion the power of relationships in the personal and public fight to stop HIV.
