The Public Health Foundation (PHF) and the National Network of Public Health Institutes (NNPHI) have worked collaboratively to develop a new tool to help public health organizations identify and apply quality improvement (QI) tools to support measurement activities. This tool was developed through a cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC’s) Office of State, Tribal, Local, and Territorial Support (OSTLTS), through the National Public Health Improvement Initiative (NPHII)with funding from the Affordable Care Act Capacity Building Assistance to Improve Public Health Infrastructure Investments.
This tool serves as a quick guide to identifying QI tools for measurement activities and is designed to be used alongside the Public Health Quality Improvement Encyclopedia which provides details on tool use and construction. This tool provides a brief overview of how and when to use 25 QI tools to strengthen specific measurement activities:
- Choosing Measures
- Choosing Indicators
- Managing Data Quality
- Analyzing and Interpreting Data
This tool has been reviewed by CDC and several Performance Improvement Managers from CDC’s NPHII and should be considered a working document. PHF welcomes and encourages any suggestions for improving the tool. Please send input and feedback to Margie Beaudry.
