Core Competencies in Injury and Violence Prevention

Overview

This document outlines the process used to develop the Core Competencies in Injury and Violence Prevention. In 2000, the Society for the Advancement of Violence and Injury Research (SAVIR) and the State and Territorial Injury Prevention Directors Association (STIPDA) formed the National Training Initiative for Injury and Violence Prevention (NTI), a group that would work together on this project. In formulating the competencies, numerous needs assessments and other relevant competencies (e.g., the Council on Linkages Between Academia and Public Health Practice Core Competencies for Public Health Professionals) were reviewed. Following the review, a draft set of competencies was created in 2003. It was then revised and put up for public comment in September 2004. Final revisions have been made and are contained herein.
