TRAIN Affiliates and Partners Meet for 2015 TAC Annual Meeting

Topic: TRAIN, Workforce Development

Date: 5/21/2015

The 2015 TRAIN Affiliate Consortium (TAC) Annual Meeting brought together over 50 public health and healthcare professionals to discuss workforce development and TRAIN, the nation’s premier learning management network for professionals and volunteers who protect the public’s health. The meeting was sponsored by the Public Health Foundation (PHF) and TRAIN’s IT partner Knowledge Management Interactive (KMI), and hosted by the New Mexico Department of Health.

Representatives from the 25 state health departments and four federal agencies that make up the TRAIN community along with national  partners, shared information and resources about public health and healthcare workforce development, training, and preparedness initiatives throughout the three-day meeting. Participating partner organizations included:

  • Association for Community Health Improvement (ACHI)
  • Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO)
  • de Beaumont Foundation
  • HOSA – Future Health Professionals
  • National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO)
  • North Carolina Institute for Public Health (NCIPH)
  • National Center for Disaster Medicine and Public Health (NCDMPH)
  • Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU)
  • Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB)
  • Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC)

Meeting sessions addressed how TRAIN can enhance workforce development within public health and healthcare, such as using TRAIN to support public health accreditation (specifically Domain 8 and Domain 9) and reaching professionals with timely and high-quality training on communicable diseases such as Ebola. Additionally, participants learned best practices in developing web-based and mobile content. The ability to rapidly reach both public health and healthcare professionals with appropriate training continues to be important. These and other sessions offered attendees new workforce development strategies and opportunities to collaborate across their agencies and organizations, helping to create a stronger, more prepared public health system.
